OptiPlex 790 running Windows XP x86 I used an Acronis image of an OptiPlex 755 to build a HDD for the 790 using Universal Restore with known good WinPE drivers. Known good driver packs (Software, Chipset, Intel AMT, USB3, PCIE, NIC, Audio and Video) all installed correctly, in that order except the Intel AMT.
From 2012 i try to find this 'pci simple communications controller dell inspiron n4010 driver' but not only others but also the dell.com didn't give that. So if some one is reading this please help me. This ' My Dell ' application in my computer says driver for PCI Simple Communications Controller is missing. Where to find it?
I was getting an error during install: The setup program failed to install one or more device drivers. In Device Manager one item was flagged: PCI Simple Communications Controller. In the properties it indicated the driver was heci.sys. Checking another 790 revealed this should be Intel(R) Management Engine Interface.
The HECI driver would not install manually, returning the error, ' The name is already in use as either a service name or a service display name.' SOLUTION (the one that worked for me): Delete the HECI key under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Services and Restart (the usual REGEDIT cautions apply). Upon login the system will find new hardware.
Point at the HECI in the MEI folder from the Intel AMT driver pack. The device then install properly. I got the clue that led to the solution here. The newer versions of the drivers work with all windows.

This is generally the domain of the Intel Chipset Driver. Incidentally, when you begin installing drivers you must install the Notebook System Software (in System Utilities if available for your computer and OS) and the Intel Chipset Driver in that order and before anything else. The remaining drivers are less picky about order of installation, but Dell suggests you install the video, network (Ethernet), sound, and modem after those first two. While the list does continue, I've never had a problem with choosing my own loading order after those first drivers. I could not figure out, even how to download the drivers for my D610 laptop from the dell site, the process is such a nightmare. I had to download them on my desktop to the downloads folder, save them to a DVD, and then open each one with the DVD in my laptop drive. Nothing this simple should be this convoluted.
